The Imperial College Debating Society exists to promote informed, intelligent debate in all aspects of human enquiry. Lord Robert Winston who has extended his support to our society once said, "Scientists need to be much more receptive to issues which are raised by the public and which concern them.It is vital for scientists to be able to talk about our research." We believe that our society is the only avenue at Imperial for students to practice the art of being concise and confident as well as engage with different people on a variety of subjects.
This year, our society is holding its 3rd annual inter-varsity tournament on 24th of October 2009. It's going to be a fantastic day and it's all been made possible by the generous support of Glencore and the Imperial College Finance Society. Check out the Imperial IV 2009 Facebook group for more information.
We meet on every Wednesdays to discuss and debate current issues. We also provide world class coaching by top debaters for members from all levels of proficiency. Apart from this, we constantly send our debaters to national and international competitions.
However, we are not all hard work and high-brow thinking. The Imperial College Debating Society is a great place to get to know new people. Weekly meetings move to the Union bar and competitions mix rigorous thought with a dedication to social events! We can’t wait to get going, and it’s really exciting to be welcoming a new intake of debaters.
